Welcome to Sustainable Community Advocates.   SCA was established to assist clients in the development of organizations, strategies, initiatives, action plans, and projects designed to support and ensure the long-term viability of communities and regions.

SCA Principal, Steve Teshara, has been active in policy, planning, public-private partnerships, legislative advocacy, and project implementation in the Lake Tahoe region for over 30 years.  Working through a variety of collaborative efforts, Steve has provided leadership, advocacy, and helped secure millions of dollars in federal, state and local funding for watershed restoration, forest health, transportation, and other Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement (EIP) projects.

Steve’s experience includes 25 years as the chief executive for community and business organizations.  He has founded a number of influential organizations and provided leadership for several important initiatives, including, most recently, Lake Tahoe Regional Plan Initiative (RPI) and the Lake Tahoe Basin Prosperity Plan.  He is a member of the SGC project team for the Tahoe Prosperity Center and the Lake Tahoe Sustainability Collaborative.  

SCA recognizes that sustainability requires the balanced integration of innovative environmental, economic, and community goals and needs that are consistent with emerging public policy and legislation.  Our services are provided based on this important understanding.
